Compendium method TO14 is the EPA`s recommended guidance method for the sampling and determination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in ambient air samples collected in SUMMA{reg_sign} passivated canisters. In addition to samples containing ambient levels of VOCs, many air samples with VOC concentrations in the mid- to high-ppmv range are also routinely analyzed. If these high level samples are analyzed along with ambient level samples, contamination of the instrument will occur, resulting in expensive instrument repair and down-time. This talk focused on the screening of air samples collected in SUMMA{reg_sign} passivated canisters and the analysis of air samples containing high levels of VOCs. An Entech 7000 microscale purge and trap was modified by adding a loop injector before the cryofocusing unit. Using different GC temperature programs, this unit was used to both screen samples and to analyze high level air samples.
