The National Ambient Air Quality Standards and Quality Assurance

This paper presents an overview of the quality assurance, quality control (QA/QC) associated with the monitoring networks associated with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS). The oversight activities discussed include: (1) data quality objectives (DQOs), (2) reference and equivalent methods, (3) precision and accuracy, (4) national performance audits, (5) system audits, and (6) network reviews. The US EPA has established National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for 6 pollutants. These pollutants are carbon monoxide (CO), lead (Pb), nitrogen dioxide (NO{sub x}), ozone (O{sub 3}), particulate matter (PM-10), and sulfur dioxide (SO{sub 2}). 21 refs., 4 tabs.
