Spontaneous emission probabilities and collisional line widths of 00/sup 0/1--(10/sup 0/0, 02/sup 0/0)/sub I,II/ lasing transitions in the CO/sub 2/ molecule
A frequency-stabilized tunable CO/sub 2/ laser was used to measure the absorption coefficients for the J = 6--34 lines in the R and P branches of the 00/sup 0/1--(10/sup 0/0, 02/sup 0/0)/sub I,II/ transitions in CO/sub 2/ with an error of less than 1% in the pressure range of 1--200 Torr at room temperature. A specially developed method was used to calculate the spontaneous emission probabilities A/sub m/n and the collisional line widths 2..delta nu../sub L/ from the measured absorption coefficients at pressures corresponding to the Voigt and Lorentzian line profiles. The data obtained were approximated by analytic expressions describing the dependences of A/sub m/n and 2..delta nu../sub L/ on the rotational quantum number J. The squares of the matrix elements of the moments of the transitions were calculated for all the lines under study.
