Positron ring system using Anger-type detectors: Progress report for period ending December 31, 1987

This report contains a description of the major components of a multislice position scanner and results of performance testing of the device. The principal part of the scanner consists of six NaI scintillation crystals arranged in a hexagonal ring. 50 mm square photomultiplier tubes (PMT's) are arranged in 3 rows of 10 each behind the crystals. A VAX 750 computer processes the signals. Image processing algorithms are discussed. The report concludes with an extensive list of related publications. (JDH)
