Title: Optimization of photovoltaic/thermal collector heat pump systems

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6171471

Combined photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collectors convert insolation directly to both electrical and thermal energy. These collectors are potentially less costly and have smaller space requirements than equivalent separate collectors operating to satisfy residential heating, cooling, hot water and electrical power demands. TRNSYS simulation of PV/T collector-heat pump systems for residences in New York and Fort Worth climates, and analysis of the technical and economic results are discussed. The parallel heat pump configuration with 40 square meters of PV/T collectors was found to be the least-cost system option for the New York residence.
