A method is proposed for determining the volume concentration, the average density of the dispersed phase, and other parameters of a magnetic liquid, modeled as a dispersed medium consisting of a dispersion liquid and aggregates, from experimental data for the velocity of propagation of ultrasound. A method is also proposed for determining the effective sizes of the aggregates from analysis of experiments studying the dependence of the coefficient of attenuation of ultrasound propagating in the magnetic liquid on the magnitude and orientation of the magnetic field. It is shown that as the field is intensified the aggregates become extended along the direction of the field. Models taking into account the existence of aggregates and nonaggregated magnetic particles in the magnetic liquid are proposed.
