The structure and properties of flame-sprayed coatings of aluminum, zirconium, chromium, and titanium oxides and of an aluminum-magnesium spinel densified with an aluminum-chromium binder or a solution of orthophosphoric acid were investigated. Infiltration was performed in air and vacuum with subsequent heat treatment. Internal stresses on the coatings were minimized. The rate of filtration rose with increasing coating thickness and fell with decreasing sprayed particle size. Microstructure and improvements in coating wear resistance and adhesion were determined. The effects of infiltration and heat treatment on porosity and gas permeability of the coatings are shown.
