East Ohio Gas Co. (EOG) operates the Stark-Summit storage field in northeast Ohio. To maintain field deliverability, EOG hydraulically fractures approximately 20 wells/yr. Although these wells have been hydraulically fractured in the past, proppant flowback, paraffin buildup, and compressor-oil sludge can reduce the effectiveness of these treatments. The company felt that, because of the permeability range in the Clinton formation and the low sand concentrations in the foam treatments, additional improvements in deliverability could be achieved through optimization of the hydraulic-fracture-treatment design. The paper discusses candidate selection, stimulation-treatment design, treatment execution, and post-fracture evaluation.
