The effect of alloying additions of molybdenum diselenide and molybdenum disulfide on the lubricating properties of AS-8, Litol-24, and Hypoid oil, used extensively in motor vehicle transport, was investigated for purposes of reducing energy and material losses to friction. Laboratory and road service tests were performed to determine antiseizure and antiwear properties of the lubricants. Friction coefficients and load-carrying capacity were determined. Additions of 2% MoSe/sub 2/ to Litol-24 greatly reduced friction and increased the load-carrying capacity.
