Process for the catalytic isomerization of light hydrocarbons

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6161199
A process is described for the isomerization of a light paraffinic hydrocarbon feedstock comprising at least 85 weight percent aliphatic hydrocarbon having 5 to 6 carbon atoms and less than 10 weight percent cyclic hydrocarbon plus non-cyclic hydrocarbon having at least 7 carbon atoms, wherein said process comprises contacting said feedstock with an isomerization catalyst comprising from about 99 to about 99.9 percent by weight of a support component, said support component comprising from about 60 percent to about 90 percent by weight of a zeolite beta component, and from about 0.1 to about 1 percent by weight of platinum on an elemental basis at isomerization conditions wherein said conditions include a reaction temperature of from about 400 F to about 520 F and a reaction pressure of from about 200 psig to about 400 psig and producing an isomerate product having an isopentane to total pentane concentration percentage by weight of not less than about 54 percent and containing less than 8 percent by weight of hydrocarbon having less than 5 carbon atoms produced through hydrocracking.
