Casings that protect pipe (beneath roadways, for example) can become shorted to the pipe, thus intensifying galvanic corrosion and complicating cathodic protection solutions to corrosion. By way of advance planning, construction engineers can electrically insulate each casing and test the insulations's effectiveness during construction operations.
