Vectorizer system for Lawrence Livermore Laboratory

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6156520
The Vectorizer system, developed by Massachusetts Computer Associates, Inc., is a powerful tool for converting FORTRAN programs to use the vector operations available on large-scale computer systems. The Vectorizer system addresses both the safety and the efficiency of the conversion. A machine-independent analyzer determines which FORTRAN constructs can be safely converted to vector operations. Aspects of Vectorizer implementation at LLL are discussed in this report, with emphasis on the Livermore-specific items: acceptance of the LRLTRAN language and generation of efficient vector code for the STAR computer. Sections of the report discuss ramifications of LRLTRAN on parse and analysis phases of the Vectorizer, examination of multipurpose output option, proposed STAR output option features, recommendations for CRAY, recommendations for 7600, and the Vectorizer run-time environment.
