ESR studies of thiyl free radicals in relation to biological effects of radiation. Progress report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6151054
The work this year has continued the collection of information on the properties of the thiyl free radical, and a number of specific phases of these studies have been successfully completed. The bulk of the remaining effort of this year was methodological: spectra substitution techniques, low temperature flow system, oxygen concentration regulation, and kinetic studies. On the negative side, we have to retract a claim made last year, on the different reactivities of the thiyl free radicals of cysteine and penicillamine. Careful analysis of the data showed that the differences noted were mostly pH and concentration dependent, rather than due to different reactivities alone.
