Doppler-Free Lamb dip and intermodulated spectra of He/sub 2/ b /sup 3/Pi/sub g/--f /sup 3/..delta../sub u/ transition have been observed by the technique of optogalvanic spectroscopy. The analysis of the triplet splittings of rotational lines yielded the values of spin-orbit (A), spin--spin (lambda/sub zeta/ and lambda/sub perpendicular//sub perpendicular/) and spin-orbit (..gamma..) coupling constants of A/sub Pi/ = -6.75/sub 3/ +- 0.26, lambda/sub zeta/ = 3.06/sub 9/ +- 0.37, lambda/sub perpendicular//sub perpendicular/ = -4.48/sub 0/ +- 0.03, ..gamma.. = -0.00/sub 9/ +- 0.02 GHz for the b /sup 3/Pi/sub g/ state, and A/sub ..delta../ = -0.07/sub 3/ +- 0.10, lambda/sub zeta/ = 027/sub 6/ +- 0.27, and ..gamma.. = 0.01/sub 6/ +- 0.03 GHz for the f /sup 3/..delta../sub u/ state. The ..lambda..-type doubling in the b /sup 3/Pi/sub g/ state was found negligible. The derived values for the b /sup 3/Pi/sub g/ state are compared with those for the H/sub 2/ c /sup 3/Pi/sub u/ state which has the optical electron in the same 2p..pi.. orbital as He/sub 2/ b /sup 3/Pi/sub g/ state, and the departure of the electron configuration in the He/sub 2/ b /sup 4/Pi/sub g/ state from the united atom orbital (UAO) is discussed.
