Flux measurements of nu/sub. mu. / and anti-nu/sub. mu. / from decays of charmed hadrons

Prompt nu/sub ..mu../(anti-nu/sub ..mu../) fluxes from ..sqrt..s = 27.4 GeV proton interactions in tungsten were measured for theta/sub nu/ < 36 mrad. The energy and transverse momentum distributions were fitted to a D anti-D production model. The resultant total cross section was sigma approx. A/sup (2/3)/. The ratio of fluxes anti-nu/sub ..mu..//nu/sub ..mu../ was measured to be 1.02 +/- .33 in agreement with a D anti-D associated production model. A two component model in which diffractive ..lambda../sub c/ + anti-D production is included with n = 1 fits the data with the result of sigma(..lambda../sub c/ + anti-D) = 18 +/- 34 ..mu..b/nucleon.
