An important element in the technology of recovery and processing of nitrogen bases from products obtained in the liquefaction of lignites by hydrogenation is the development of conditions for obtaining individual compounds from a mixture of homologues. One of the most valuable components of the total nitrogen bases is the delta-picoline fraction, distilling at 138-140/sup 0/. This fraction includes 2-, 3-, and 4-picolines (5.0, 30.0, 30.0%) and 2,6-lutidine (30.0%), and also minor components (5.0%) that include isomers of lutidine and traces of pyridine. They have investigated the recovery of 2,6-lutidine from a mixture of homologues in a heterophase system of two solvents - water and naphtha. The high yield of the product (at least 90%) and the low cost of the extractants ensure favorable process economics.
