Turbomachinery maintenance and operation
A description of the operation and maintenance history of gas turbines and centrifugal compressors includes installation of the natural gas pipeline industry's first high pressure natural gas centrifugal compressors in 1947 and first two-shaft regenerative gas turbine by Tennessee Gas Pipe Line Co. (TGPLC), a combined 12 yr operating history of these units showing that turbomachinery can be competitive with reciprocating horsepower, and present facilities of TGPLC, including 13,500 mi of pipeline for transporting gas from South Texas and offshore Louisiana to the major markets of northeast, and the 61 compressor stations, of which 24 have either gas turbines or gas turbines and reciprocating engines as prime movers, i.e., 259,205 hp provided by turbomachinery.
