The nucleon-nucleon potentials obtained in the method of compound quark bagsare used in calculation of the binding energy and wave function in a system offour nucleons. The calculations are based on the solution of integral equationsfor the wave function of the bound state using the Hilbert-Schmidt method. Thevalue /ital z//sub ..cap alpha../=/minus/29 MeV is predicted for the binding energy of the ..cap alpha..particle. The vertex functions/ital G//sup 2//sub /ital tdn//, /ital G//sup 2//sub ..cap alpha../ital tp//, and/ital G//sup 2//sub ..cap alpha../ital dd// for the virtual decays /ital t//r arrow//ital dn/,..cap alpha../r arrow//ital tp/, and ..cap alpha../r arrow//ital dd/ are also calculated.
