Cross sections and secondary-particle multiplicity in pNe collisions at 300 GeV/c

Experimental data are reported on the cross sections for inelastic pNe collisions and on the multiplicity of secondary charged and neutral particles. The results agree satisfactorily with calculations in the multiple-scattering model. The negative-particle multiplicity distribution, expressed in terms of the variables of Koba et al., differs from the corresponding results for ..pi../sup +/Ne and ..pi../sup -/Ne collisions and exhibits a slight dependence on the mass number of the target nucleus. Analysis reveals that a relatively large number of fast protons (p> or approx. =1.2 GeV/c) are ejected from the neon nucleus.
