Role of steric factors in the hydration of methylacetylene in the Cu(I)-RSH catalytic system

The effect of the nature of the thiol on the regioselectivity of the hydration of methylacetylene in solutions of Cu(I) chloride complexes in the presence of thiols was investigated. It was shown that the ratio of the formation rates of propionaldehyde and acetone correlates with the Charton steric constants of the radical in the thiol molecule.
