Soybean plants were subjected to daily 4 hour ozone fumigations of 25 pphm, 50 pphm, and 75 pphm throughout their life cycles. Vegetative biomass and seed yield were determined and analyses were made of the lipid, phospholipid, fatty acid, crude fiber, amino acid, and protein contents of the seed. The data, based on two crops, showed that the vegetative biomass of the plants grown in a 75 pphm ozone environment was reduced 53.8% compared to that of the control. A biomass reduction of 22.3% was found for the plants grown in the 50 pphm ozone environment. The reduction in seed yield in the 75 pphm and the 50 pphm ozone environments were 77.8% and 54.6%, respectively. A chemical analysis of the seeds produced in the 75 pphm ozone environment showed a 5.18% decrease in lipids and a 40.1% increase in free amino acids in comparison to those seeds produced by plants in the control environment.
