Pion-pion decay distributions for. pi. /sup -/p. -->. pi. /sup +/. pi. /sup -/n at 100 and 175 GeV/c

We report measurements of the reaction ..pi../sup -/p ..-->.. ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/n at 100 and 175 GeV/c using a large wire chamber spectrometer at Fermilab. Signals for rho/sup 0/, f/sup 0/, and g/sup 0/ resonance production are observed. Cross sections for ..pi../sup -/p ..-->.. ..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/n in the rho/sup 0/ mass region are given. Decay angle distributions for ..pi pi.. masses from .55 to 3.5 GeV/c/sup 2/ are presented. Moment analyses of the decay distributions are made as a function of ..pi pi.. mass, from .55 to 2.4 GeV/c/sup 2/. Detailed discussions of our apparatus, trigger, and analysis procedures are given.
