Data for the reaction ..pi../sup -/p..--> pi.. + ..pi../sup -/n were collected in a multitrigger survey experiment at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Data were collected at incident pion momenta of 20 GeV/c, 50 GeV/c, 100 GeV/c and 175 GeV/c. The majority of the data were collected at the higher two momenta. This thesis describes the hardware configuration with which the 175 GeV/c data were colected, describes the software with which they were analyzed, and displays event distributions in the kinematic variables. A moment analysis is presented for both the 100 GeV/c and 175 GeV/c data. The moment analysis results are combined with lower energy results to generate points on the pion Regge trajectory. Finally, the reaction ..pi../sup -/p..--> pi.. + ..pi../sup -/..pi../sup 0/n is briefly studied at a beam momentum of 175 GeV/c. A complementary thesis which analyzes the 100 GeV/c data and presents pion-pion scattering in the context of the poor man's absorption model (PMA) has been written by S. Stampke.
