HVAC system analysis: Checking equipment efficiency

Journal Article · · Energy Eng.; (United States)

This article presents methods of determining energy efficiency for fuel boilers, chillers, heat exchangers, pumps, fans, motors, and cooling towers. Flue gas analysis is used to obtain precise boiler efficiencies. It is suggested that if the chiller is old and manufacturer performance data is unavailable, a comparison should be made against a likely replacement chiller. Heat exchangers can be retrofitted with better instrumentation to monitor performance, better water treatment systems, filters, and an automatic brush cleaning system. It is recommended that when analyzing pump effici
