The Board emphasizes that energy is a major factor of our national security, economy, business and our individual lives. Energy conservation, energy efficiency techniques, and the maintenance of our domestic infrastructure for energy production capability are vital to our national energy self-sufficiency, national security, and national debt reduction effort. Education which results in reducing energy use through conservation and energy efficiency should also reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil imports and consumer dependence on direct fuel assistance payments.
