Influence of stannate ions on the performance of silver oxide and cadmium electrodes in alkaline galvanic cells

The authors report the results of a study of the influence of addition of tin on the performance of electrodes in silvercadmium batteries. They find that when tin is used as a stabilizing additive the anodic process on the silver oxide electrtode is hindered, and this leads to gas evolution at an earlier stage. The cathodic process on the cadmium electrode is also hindered, probably as a result of the aging of the stannate solutions formed and deposition of insoluble tin compounds on the surface of the cadmium electrode.
