GWF Power Systems Co.'s Placerita I cogeneration plant in the Placerita field 25 miles northwest of Los Angeles is on line supplying 50,000 lb/hr of steam for heavy oil recovery while simultaneously producing 7.5 Mw of electricity. The facility provides steam for 12 adjacent oil wells on TOSCO Enhanced Oil Recovery Corp's 40-acre Orwig property on Sect. 31, 4N15W, Los Angeles County, while the electricity is sold to Southern California Edison Co. In 1,600 hr of operation, the plant generated over 10 million kw-hr of electricity and 36 million lb of steam. TOSCO uses the steam in a cyclic operation involving 12 wells, putting away steam in the Kraft Zone of Pliocene age at a depth of ca 1,800 ft. The zone produces 13-gravity oil with output presently running ca 150 bpd.
