Synthesis of C/sub 1/-C/sub 3/ hydrocarbons on catalysts derived from iron carbonyl complexes
Metal carbonyls, including those deposited on supports, exhibit high activity and selectivity in the synthesis of olefins from CO and H/sub 2/. By using K/sub 2/(Fe(CO)/sub 4/) or K/sub 2/(Fe-(CO)/sub 2/(C/sub 5/H/sub 5/) complexes supported on Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/ and SiO/sub 2/, mixtures of C/sub 2/-C/sub 5/ olefins were obtained from CO and H/sub 2/. The goal of the authors in this work was the investigation of iron carbonyl complexes on gamma-Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/, initially impregnated with KOH, in the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H/sub 2/. Catalysts based on Fe(CO)/sub 5/ were prepared in an argon atmosphere. It is concluded that in the synthesis of olefins from CO and H/sub 2/, the activity and selectivity of catalysts derived from iron carbonyl complexes depend on the content of Fe and K in the catalysts; and, under optimum conditions at 400/sup 0/C on a 0.6% Fe-7.0% K/gamma-Al/sub 2/)/sub 3/ catalyst, the content of C/sub 2/H/sub 4/ and C/sub 3/H/sub 6/ in the hydrocarbon mixture amounted to 52.0% for a CO conversion of 23.5%.
