The preparation and characterization of alkyne adducts of hexaalkoxides of ditungsten are discussed. Solid state structure, bonding considerations, /sup 1/H NMR studies, and /sup 13/C NMR studies are all discussed. Evidence for identification of the W identical with CH group and for the equilibrium between the dimetallatetrahedrane and the methylidynemetal complex are presented.
