Texture transitions in flowing /sup 3/He

A system for the study of flowing superfluid /sup 3/He has been developed. The cell, which is mounted on a nuclear demagnetization cryostat, utilizes a bellows drive system that can produce a flow at a well defined velocity. This cell is being used to look for texture changes caused by flow using the anisotropy of the attenuation of zero sound in the A phase. Preliminary results indicate that reproducible texture changes can be observed and that these transitions may be consistent with the onset of helical textures. 7 references, 5 figures.
