Air pollution, acid rain, and the future of forests. Part 4. Cutting emissions

Journal Article · · Am. For.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6100160
In Part 4 of this series, promising pollution control technologies are described which could change the rate of emissions of sulfur and nitrogen oxides from power plants and automobiles. These technologies are reported from the United States, Sweden, West Germany, the Netherlands, and Japan. Included are improvements in flue gas desulfurization, selective catalytic reduction, fluidized bed combustion, the limestone injection multistage burner, and modifications in catalytic converters. Requiring those fostering air pollution to begin paying for it will raise the price of energy and products but it will also encourage more efficient use of energy and materials.
