Interaction of methane and carbon monoxide with nickel-chromium oxide catalyst

The authors investigated the interaction of methane and carbon monoxide with a nickel-chromium oxide catalyst in a pulse-type, non-chromatographic regime, in a temperature range of 155-450/degree/C. They showed that the type of kinetic curve describing the surface reduction of the catalyst depends on the nature of the reducing agent (CH/sub 4/, CO), on the temperature, on the concentration of the reducing agent in the pulse and its contact time with the catalyst, and on the time between pulses; whereas the surface condition is determined only by the amount of removed oxygen. The shape of the kinetic curve cannot be regarded as the sole indicator of the reduction reaction mechanism.
