Distributed central control brings campuswide energy savings

This article discusses the central energy management system implemented by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to cut energy costs. Discussed is the equipment purchased, its testing and implementation and an evaluation of its operating efficiency. Installation was completed in 1984 and the system monitors and controls 100 buildings in Chapel Hill and an additional 21 buildings at the school's Durham site.
