Activity of catalysts in the initial stage of oxidation of isomeric xylenes by molecular oxygen

This paper is devoted to an investigation of the catalytic effect of variable-valence metals on the rate of liquid-phase oxidation of o/sup -/, m/sup -/, and p-xylenes by oxygen in the stage of chain initiation and propagation and also the determination of their reactivity. The oxidation experiments were carried out in a medium of the hydrocarbon being oxidized in the presence of the catalysts cobalt stearate and chromium stearate and a mixed cobalt stearate-chromium stearate catalyst. The oxidation rate was calculated according to the oxygen absorption.
