New technique vacuums gob gas

A cross-measure borehole technique for methane drainage is being developed jointly by the US Bureau of Mines and Bethlehem Mines Corp. for use in retreat longwall mining. It is an adaptation of the method used in Western Europe. The design of the system is described and results obtained in a Bethlehem mine are presented.
