Development of the Umm Shaif Field in Abu Dhabi
Umm Shaif was the first offshore oil field discovered in Abu Dhabi waters. It is situated 95 miles northwest of Abu Dhabi town and 22 miles east-northeast of Das Is. where the oil is processed and exported. The Umm Shaif Field is the second largest field operated in the Abu Dhabi marine areas (ADMA) concession and an oil production rate of approximately 250,000 bpd was reached in October 1973. The Arab reservoir, which is the main producing formation in Umm Shaif, is a thick section (pay zone averages 780 ft). It has a large gas cap which provides good pressure support. The reservoir data gained from initial production have allowed the reservoir behavior to be studied and satisfactorily simulated. Predictions of future performance indicate that ultimate oil recovery will be improved by supporting the reservoir pressure with water injection. Field injectivity tests have been made to insure the feasibility of injecting water into the formation.
