It was shown that the electrochemical oxidation potentials of substituted benzenes can be described in terms of an approach which takes account of the dependence of the electronic effect of the +M substituents on the energy of the highest occupied molecular ..pi.. orbital on the square of the coefficient of the atomic orbital at the point of addition of the substituent.
