Riser capability critical to TLP operations

Wellhead strength is a major concern of offshore operators when contemplating the use of a tension leg platform (TLP) or floating production systems for developing deepwater reserves. The reason the wellhead strength is of such importance is that production risers must remain connected during storm conditions. Extensive engineering research on riser capability is being conducted. The results of finite element analyses and full-scale prototype testing with computerized data recording are discussed.
