Interfaces in composites; Proceedings of the Symposium, Boston, MA, Nov. 27-29, 1989

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6071489

The present conference discusses topics in the micromechanics of interfaces, interface characterization, interface reactions in ceramic and metal systems, interface effects in ceramic-matrix and metal-matrix composites, and interface effects in polymer-matrix composites. Attention is given to bridging processes in metal-reinforced ceramics, filament-fragmentation phenomena, transcrystallization in polymer-matrix composites, weak interface effects on ceramic-matrix composite transverse properties, and the R-curve behavior of SiC/alumina-matrix composites. Also discussed are tailored interfaces in polymer composites, the production of modulus gradients at interfaces, the interfacial effects of plasma treatment on fiber pullout, the effect of surface oxygen in the adhesion of carbon fiber-reinforced composites, and interlaminar fracture in carbon fiber-reinforced thermoplastic-matrix composites.
