The present conference discusses the ballistic energy absorption of composites, high-speed pultrusion of thermoplastic composites, thermoplastic filament-winding, nontechnical impediments to composites producibility, design tradeoffs for ceramic/composite armor materials, computerized adhesives bonding, elastomer-coated fibers in composites, curing-stress concentrations in composites, continuous SiC filament-reinforced metals, and a high specific modulus Mg-matrix composite. Also discussed are advanced composite structures for launch vehicles, the fabrication of braided composite structures by resin-transfer molding, a thermoplastic composite sandwich system with knitted fabric core, high-velocity penetration of a kevlar-reinforced laminate, composites for prostheses, alternative structural materials for space applications, and the structural stitching of textile preforms.
