Petroleum supply, demand, and interdependence in the Caribbean Basin

Journal Article · · Caribb. Basin Econ. Surv.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6066257
Petroleum now represents the lifeblood of the Caribbean economies, which see their future growth in continued exploration and production. The petroleum industries in Mexico and Venezuela are state-run, while private enterprise participates in the other producing countries. Each must develop new markets and reserves to meet the increasing domestic and foreign demand. The Basin's net petroleum importers must concentrate on expanding their own exports in order to meet the higher costs. The Caribbean Basin makes up for higher production costs with its proximity to major markets. A breakdown of the petroleum export and import price, reserve, and production data is summarized in tables. 31 references.
