Contribution of the two-nucleon mechanism in the absorption of 60-MeV. pi. /sup +/ mesons by Ag and Br nuclei

The nuclear-emulsion method has been used to investigate the absorption of ..pi../sup +/ mesons with energy 60 MeV by nuclei of Ag and Br accompanied by emission of one or two fast protons. Energy and angular spectra of the protons are obtained, and for the two-proton events distributions are obtained in the total kinetic energy of the protons and their angular correlations. The contribution of the pole quasideuteron mechanism to the absorption is evaluated. It is found that capture of positive pions in Ag and Br nuclei by two correlated neutrons is 3.5 times more probable than the quasideuteron mechanism.
