Occurrence of trace metal induced hormesis

Conference · · Trace Subst. Environ. Health; (United States)
OSTI ID:6059443
The presentation will provide an overview concerning toxic chemical hormesis, including organic and inorganic substances. Evidence will be presented on the occurrence of chemical hormesis by chemical classes studied (essential trace elements, trace heavy metals, polychlorinated biphenyls, etc.) and by affected biological and toxic end points (lifespan, tumor incidence, repair capacity, etc.). Several specific examples of possible chemical hormetic effects with respect to trace agents of environmental concern (chloroform, pesticides) will be presented. The discussion will conclude with a discussion of future research directions. 84 references, 4 figures, 12 tables.
