Technical and economic aspects of district heating systems supplied from cogeneration power plants

Conference · · Proc. Am. Power Conf.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6055833
The feasibility of district heating systems using heat from power plants is discussed in terms of system design requirements, heat distribution system costs, consumer building retrofitting costs, cost of combined heat and power generation, and unit heat costs for district heating versus conventional oil-fired boiler systems. The developed data demonstrate that, based on 1977 prices, district heating systems are feasible for U.S. cities with high population densities, and that with increasing fuel prices the economic advantages of district heating will become feasible for smaller communities.
