Angular dependence of inclusive production of nucleons in nuclear reactions at high energies, and separation of the contributions of quasifree and deep inelastic nuclear processes

We have measured inclusive spectra of nucleons emitted from the nuclei C, Cu, Pb, and U under the action of protons with momenta from 1 to 9 GeV/c, ..pi../sup +/ mesons with momenta from 1 to 6 GeV/c, and ..pi../sup -/ mesons with momenta 1.4 and 5 GeV/c at angles 59, 89, 119, and 160/sup 0/. For initial protons with momentum 7.5 GeV/c and ..pi../sup -/ mesons with momentum 5 GeV/c we have measured the detailed angular dependence in the range 10--177/sup 0/. On the basis of the data obtained we have separated the contributions of quasifree and deep inelastic nuclear reactions. The proton yield in deep inelastic reactions can be described by a dependence of the form f = C exp(-(T-..mu..) (1-..beta.. cos theta)/T/sub 0/*).
