The crystal structure of cubic single crystals of (N(CH/sub 3/)/sub 4/)/sub 2/(NH/sub 4/)(VW/sub 5/O/sub 19/) grown from aqueous solution was solved using three-dimensional diffractometer data (Syntex P2/sub 1/ autodiffractometer, Mo K/alpha/ radiation, 243 reflections) and refined to R = 0.069, space group. Fm3m, a = 13.824(4) /angstrom/, V = 2641.8 /angstrom//sup 3/, Z = 4. The main fragments in the structure are: (a) the isopolyanion M/sub 6/O/sub 19/ (M is a statistical distribution of five W atoms and one V atom), composed of six edge-sharing octahedra of oxygens; (b) the NH/sub 4/ group, situated inside an octahedron contacting the six surrounding isopolyanions of M/sub 6/O/sub 19/ through terminal oxygens; and (c) the tetramethylammonium ion, N(CH/sub 3/)/sub 4//sup +/, situated in the center of a multifaced polyhedron. The M/sub 6/O/sub 19/ ions and NH/sub 4/ octahedra form a three-dimensional framework. The N(CH/sub 3/)/sub 4//sup +/ ions are located in the center of large voids. The vibrational spectra (IR and laser Raman) of the compound were investigated. The possibility of using IR spectra for the identification of mixed sixth-order isopolyanions in various salts was demonstrated.
