Synthesis and characterization of ruthenium complexes containing tridentate P[sub 3]O[sub 9][sup 3[minus]], Nb[sub 2]W[sub 4]O[sub 19][sup 4[minus]], and Cp*TiW[sub 5]O[sub 18][sup 3[minus]] ligands

Seven new ruthenium complexes containing tridentate oxygen ligands have been prepared: [(C[sub 6]H[sub 6])Ru(P[sub 3]O[sub 9])][N(C[sub 4]H[sub 9])[sub 4]] (1), [(p-cymene)Ru(P[sub 3]O[sub 9])][N(C[sub 4]H[sub 9])[sub 4]] (2), [(p-cymene)Ru(Nb[sub 2]W[sub 4]O[sub 19])][N(C[sub 4]H[sub 9])[sub 4]][sub 2] (3), [(C[sub 6]H[sub 6])Ru(CP*TiW[sub 5]O[sub 18])][N(C[sub 4]H[sub 9])[sub 4]] (4), [(CH[sub 3]CN)[sub 3]Ru(P[sub 3]O[sub 9])][N(C[sub 4]H[sub 9])[sub 4]][center dot]CH[sub 3]CN (5), [(C[sub 8]H[sub 12])Ru(NH[sub 2]NC(CH[sub 3])[sub 2])(P[sub 3]O[sub 9])][N(C[sub 4]H[sub 9])[sub 4]][center dot]CH[sub 3]COCH[sub 3] (6), and [(C[sub 8]H[sub 12])Ru(CH[sub 3]CN)(P[sub 3]O[sub 9])][N(C[sub 4]H[sub 9])[sub 4]][center dot]0.5H[sub 2]O (7). Two of these compounds were structurally characterized using single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The remaining complexes were formulated and assigned structures on the basis of their elemental composition and the similarity of their infrared spectra and multinuclear NMR spectra with those of isostructural species whose molecular structures have been established crystallographically. 21 refs., 7 figs., 6 tabs.
