In ..pi../sup -/ /sup 12/C interactions selected in photographs of a two-meter propane chamber bombarded by 40-GeV/c ..pi../sup -/ mesons, we have studied the characteristics of secondary particles (the average momenta, average emission angles, average rapidities, and average multiplicities) as functions of a variable which characterizes the order of cumulativity. It turned out that the region of cumulative interactions is clearly distinguished on the basis of all characteristics studied, with a boundary in cumulative number n/sub c/roughly-equal0.6. The features observed in the interactions are discussed. An indication is obtained that there is a peak in the angular distribution of the protons from these events, at an angle thetaapprox. =60/sup 0/, which was observed previously in study of collisions accompanied by complete breakup of carbon nucleus.
