Closo-(B/sub 11/H/sub 11/AlCH/sub 3/)/sup 2 -/, an aluminaborane analogue of the closo-(B/sub 12/H/sub 12/)/sup 2 -/ dianion: synthesis, characterization, and molecular structure

A high-yield synthesis of 1-methyl-1-aluminaundecahydrodecaborate(2- dianion), (B/sub 11/H/sub 11/AlCH/sub 3/)/sup 2 -/, an aluminaborane analogue of closo-(B/sub 12/H/sub 12/)/sup 2 -/ dianion is described. The characterization and molecular structure of the dianion is reported. Results of /sup 11/B NMR spectrum of the dianion were used in the characterization process. 7 references, 1 figure.
