Characteristics of receiving transducers for acoustic emission. II. Experiment

Experimental determinations of the sensitivity and performance characteristics of ultrasonic receiving transducers are given along with the methods used to make the determinations. The measurements were made in two stages. In the first stage the frequency-wave characteristics of the input actuations were investigated. Laser interferometry was used to determine the amplitude-frequency and phase-frequency characteristics of the displacement field. In the second stage characteristics were determined for the conversion ratio of the transducers. It was established that the conversion ratio and, for piezoelectric transducers, the frequency-wave characteristics substantially depend on the wave composition of the input actuation.
